In small-town America, factory owner Joe Keller and his wife, Kate, have sustained the wounds of an ugly war. Their son, a fighter pilot, has been declared MIA, but Kate refuses to accept his death. Joe also denies his in the manufacturing of defective parts used in American aircraft.
